Gokyo a small village of Sherpa which is located on the elevation of approximately 4800m near the bank of third Gokyo Lake (Dudh Pokhari).It is one of the most popular destinations of Everest trek for stunning Scenery Mountains. The main aim to visit this place is to climb Gokyo Ri (5357) from where you can see the whole Everest range and Ngozumba glacier with the panoramic views of Choyu, Gezukhang, Tabuche, Gezu Ri, Everest, Lhotse, Pumori, Makalu  and other numerous small mountains.

You can spend there one or two days to see the wonderful view of around it and to climb Gokyo Ri. During your staying, you can visit Cho-Oyu (8153) base camp which is very interesting. On the way of it, you can see the 4th and 5th lake as well. If the weather is clear, you can you make an ascent of the peak Gokyo Ri (5357) early in the morning to catch the picturesque scenery of Khumbu region along with sunrise. There are few lodges in Gokyo for trekkers and sometimes you have to sleep in the dinning as well due to lack of rooms mainly in peak season. You will visit this wonderful village, if you do Gokyo lakes trek that is widely regarded as one of Nepal’s classic treks. Likewise, you can include it as one of the part of Everest base camp trek. The main attractions of this trek are excellent snow-capped Mountain View, Gokyo Ri, old Buddhist monasteries, unique Sherpa culture, friendly Sherpa people, different sorts of flora and fauna etc.

 

Brief itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m)
Day 02:: Fly to Lukla (2,840m) and trek to Phakding (2,610m) 4/5 hours
Day 03: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) 6/7 hours
Day 04: Rest day for acclimatization
Day 05: Namche Bazaar to Khumjung (3,780m) 3/4 hours
Day 06: Khumjung to Phortse Tanga (3,680m) 4/6 hours
Day 07: Phortse Tanga to Dole (4,200m) 4/5 hours
Day 08: Dole to Machhermu (4,470m) 4/5 hours
Day 09: Rest day for acclimatization
Day 10: Machhermo to Gokyo (4,790m) 4/5 hours
Day 11: Rest day at Gokyo
Day 12: Gokyo Ri (5,360m) and back to Machhermo (4,470m) 6/7 hours
Day 13: Machhermo to Mongla (3,700m) 4/5 hours
Day 14: Mongla to Namche (3,440m) 3/4 hours
Day 15: Namche to Phakding (2,610m) 4/5 hours

Day 17: Lukla to Kathmandu (1,350m)

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m)

Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport is the only one international airport of Nepal from where you will be welcomed with a great hospitality by the representative of United Brothers Trek and Expedition and transferred to the hotel. After having checked in the hotel, we will give you a short briefing about the trip and collect the essential documents (Passport and Photos) from you to issue the trekking permits. You can rest the leisure time exploring around and stay a night at the hotel with breakfast.

Day 02: Fly to Lukla (2,840m) and trek to Phakding (2,610m) 4/5 hours

On the third day, we will go to the domestic airport early in the morning for Lukla flight which takes around 35 minutes. You can see unbelievable views of mountain and green country side. After 25 minutes of short flight, you will arrive at Tenjing Hillary airport Lukla then we will get off from the plan and go to a lodge and take small break with a cup of tea and introduce with our other crew like porters. Then we move slowly through the Sherpa village called Chhoplung and Ghat with new hope. We will stop on the way for a while to take lunch and then continue our journey to Phakding and stay overnight. It takes about 4/5 hours.

Day 03: Phakding to Namche Namche Bazaar (3,440m) 6/7 hours

After having spent a night at Phakding, we will continue our journey to Namche after breakfast and the entire trails goes through Sherpa village along Dhudkoshi River. On the way to Namche Bazaar, you can see the breathtaking views of Mt. Thamserku, waterfalls and typical Sherpa villages. We have to cross Dhudkosi River more than5 times on suspension bridge. Jorsale is the main entrance of Everest region and we have to pay the national park fees here if we haven’t done it at Kathmandu. We will take a short break for lunch at Jorsale and then carry on the trip. From the last suspension bridge, the way climbs up and if the weather is clear you can see the Mt. Everest and Lhotse which removes all your physical tiredness and give new energy to climb the steep. After 6/7 hours of walking we get to Namche Bazaar and stay overnight at lodge.

Day 04: Rest day for acclimatization

Namche Bazaar is the capital city of Sherpa people located on the lap of Mt. Everest. Today, we have leisure time and to utilize it, we visit to Sherpa Museum and Army Camp from where you can see the clear view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Amadablam clearly. Likewise, you can observe the ecosystem of Everest region which is clung on the wall of National park museum. After that we will return back to the lodge and have lunch and then spend the spare time by exploring around Namche Bazaar and stay overnight.

Day 05: Namche Bazaar to Khumjung (3,780m) 3/4 hours

From Namche Bazaar, the way gently ascends to Khumjung through small bushes and on the way to it, you can observe the wonderful view of Himalayan Sherpa kingdom (Namche Bazaar) along with the scenery of Kongde Peak, Thame Village, Amadablam, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku and much more interesting things which makes the trip easier and enjoyable. If you are Lucky, you will see the blue sheep and Lophophorus (Danfe the national bird of Nepal) while ascending. The way continues through pine forest again and arrives at Syangboche where we stop for short pause and have a cup of tea. Syangboche is the highest airport of the world and from here the trail again slightly steeps and passes a small ridge then climbs down and reaches at a small green Sherpa village. It is Edmund Hillary’s most loved village where you can visit Hillary’s School and Khumjung monastery. Inside of the monastery, you can see Yeti’s head. We stay a night here at a lodge.

Day 06: Khumjung to Phortse Tanga (3,680m) 4/6 hours

Khumjung is called the Green valley of Everest region. You can see entire roofs of the house here made of Zink. From here, the route descends around 45 minutes and then begins steep slowly. If the weather is clear, you can see the unbelievable scenery of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Kangteka and the green Khumbu dale along with Tyangboche Monastery. After 3 hours of walking we will arrive at a small village situated on the top of the hill called Mong La where we stop for Lunch. After lunch we continue the trip to Phortse Tanga. From here the way descends till Phortse Tanga and we spend overnight at Lodge.

Day 07: Phortse Tanga to Dole (4,200m) 4/5 hours

Phortse Tanga is located at the bank of the river where only few lodges are available. After breakfast, we trek to Dole. Today the way starts steep through Pine and rhododendron trees with the clear view of Amadablam, Phortse village, Kangteka and the long water fall on your left side while ascending. The water fall is very popular for ice climbing training during the period of winter. In the winter season the water becomes ice so that every year the people who are interested in mountaineering activities, they come to take basic and advance mountaineering training for a month with popular ice climbing teachers. There are no any lodges between phortse Tanga and Dole. Hence, we go directly to Dole for lunch which takes approximately 4/5 hours and stay overnight at lodge.

Day 08: Dole to Machhermu (4,470m) 4/5 hours

After having spent a wonderful night at the small Sherpa Village, we carry on our journey to Machhermo.The trail is steep in most places as it climbs through scrub junipers to Lhapharma at 4220m. There are many pastures around it. After that the next village is Luza where only few lodges are available. It is located on the elevation of 4360m. From here, the way continues to ascend along the side of the valley, high above the river, crossing sandy spurs to Machhermo at 4410m. If the weather is clear we can see the picturesque view of Tawache, Khumbila and sunset on ridge of the snow-capped mountain. You can visit the high altitude doctor also for information for further trip. But don’t believe blindly what the doctor suggests to do. They are here only for their business purpose. Better to take the decision yourself by consulting to your guide. Namgyal lodge is the best lodge at this place. We spend a night at lodge.

Day 09: Rest day for acclimatization

You can climb the Machhermo hill for acclimatization and to catch the lovely view of Machhermo Village, Mt. Choyu, Tawache, Thamserku and other view of the Rocky Mountain and Yak pastures. Then come to the same lodge and have lunch and take full rest for the next day.

Day 10: Machhermo to Gokyo (4,790m) 4/5 hours

Machhermo is a small Sherpa Village and from here we continue our trek to Gokyo. Boyond Machhermo the trail ascends a ride for excellent view. From here the trail is pretty easy and flat till Panga Village at 4390m. In November1995 due to heavy snow an entire trekking group was killed by avalanche. The route again descends to the river bank before commencing the ascending on to the terminal morain of the Ngozumpa Glacier. The trail goes through steep and rocky way and gets to a small lake at 4650m, where you can a family of ducks has resided for many years. From here the way becomes almost level as it follows the valley and you will see the second big lake on your left side at 4690 and finally arrives at Gokyo Lake where we spend our night at lodge.

Day 11: Rest day at Gokyo

Gokyo is located on the shores of the third Gokyo Lake on the elevation of 4750m/15,584ft where few lodges are built for staying. It is indeed a wonderful place but it does have its own problem. The toilets are potentially polluting the Lake without visible impact yet. The entire toilet becomes ice due to cold.The views in the Gokyo region is tremendous. The excellent Everest view along with Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Gyachhung Kang, Makalu, Cholatse, Tawachee, Gokyo village and the entire Ngozumpa Glacier from Gokyo Ri is only one of the many reasons for visiting Gokyo. Today after breakfast, you can go to 5th lake with packed Lunch for acclimatization and good view. By the evening you can return back to the lodge. Have dinner and go to bed early to be prepared before the dawn to climb Gokyo Ri.

Day 12: Gokyo Ri (5,360m) and back to Machhermo (4,410m) 6/7 hours

After the summit of Gokyo Ri, we will return back to the lodge and have lunch. Then we will pack our things and descend down to Machhermo from the same way and stay overnight at lodge.

Day 13: Machhermo to Mongla (3,700m) 4/5 hours

On the next day, we again descend down to Mong La and stay overnight there.

Day 14: Mongla to Namche (3,440m) 3/4 hours

We continue our journey down to Namche Bazaar. Today, you can take bath and go to pup for relaxing and enjoying the memorable day and stay a night there.

Day 15: Namche to Phakding (2,610m) 4/5 hours

From Namche, we climb down again through the same way and stop at Monju for Lunch. After that we continue our journey to Phakding and spend a night at lodge.

Day 16: Phakding to Lukla (2,840m) 3/4 hours

Today is final day of our trek. We directly head to Lukla and celebrate the final day of our trek with our innocent porters and staffs. By the evening we will get together and distribute tips for them to thank for their hard works during the trek and say good bye. We spend a night at lukla

Day 17: Lukla to Kathmandu (1,350m)

With the memory of our wonderful trek, today we fly back to Kathmandu and do shopping for our next destination.

Day 18: Final departure to Airport

Today, we will drop you to the airport and say good bye until you next visit.
