Everest Mera and Amphu Lapcha Pass Trek

Mera Amphu Lapcha Pass trek is one of the most challenging treks of Everest region which starts from Lukla or Tumlingtar and ends at Lukla. This trek is suitable only for those people who are physically and mentally fit, sufficient time for the adventurous trek and wants to do a small peak climbing along with the adventurous trek in their life for new experience. Mera peak (6461m) is located in the eastern part of Nepal behind Mt. Amadablam and on the head of Hungu Valley at Makalu Barun National Park. Mera Peak is divided into three parts South Mera Peak 6064m, Central Mera Peak 6461m and North Mera Peak 6476m. We climb only the Central Mera and nobody climbs the South and North Mera Peak due to its technical route.

The main attraction of this trek is the tremendous view of Snow-capped Mountains, Hungu Valley, natural lakes and green countryside. You can see the amazing views of the mighty mountains above (8000m) Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyo, Makalu, Kanchenjunga and other hundreds of small peaks below (8000m) with the entire stunning scenery of Khumbu range. The next adventurous high pass is called Amphu Lapcha Pass which needs an experienced and trained climbing Sherpa to fix the rope.  The best season for this trek is 1st Sept to end of November and 1st March to end of May.

 

Brief itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m)

Day 02: Full day Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2,840m) and trek to Tsutanga (3,020m) 4/5 hours

Day 04: Tsutanga to Chhatare (4,610m) 5/6 hours

Day 05: Chhatare to Kothe (3,691m) 4/5 hours

Day 06: Kothe to Tangna (4,356m) 4/5 hours

Day 07: Rest day at Tangna (4,356m)

Day 08: Tangna to Khare (5,045m) 4/5 hours

Day 09: Khare to Mera Base Camp (5,350mm) 4/5 hours

Day 10: Mera peak (6,461m) climb and back to Base Camp 11/12 hours

Day 11: Base Camp to Kongmadingma (4,850m) 4/5 hour

Day 12: Kongma Dingma to Seti Pokhari (4,970m) 5/6 hours

Day 13: Seti Pokhari to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp South) (5650m) 5/6 hours

Day 14: Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (South 5,650m) to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (North 5,300m) 5/6 hours

Day 15: Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (North) (5,300m) to Pangboche (3,930m) 5/6 hours

Day 16: Pangboche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) 6/7 hours

Day 17: Namche Bazaar to Phakding (2,610m) 6/7 hours

Day 18: Phakding to Lukla (2,840m) 4/5 hours

Day 19: Lukla to Kathmandu (1,350m) 35 minutes by flight.

Day 20: Final Departure

 

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m)

Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport is the only one international airport of Nepal from where you will be welcomed with a great hospitality by the representative of United Brothers Trek and Expedition and transferred to the hotel. After having checked in the hotel, we will give you a short briefing about the trip and collect the essential documents (Passport and Photos) from you to issue the trekking permits. You can rest the leisure time exploring around and stay a night at the hotel with breakfast.

Day 02: Full day Sightseeing in Kathmandu

You can get up in the morning and have breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast we will come to pick you up at the hotel and take for full day sightseeing around Kathmandu valley (the world heritage site). At first, we will drive you to Swayambunath Temple. Swayambunath means self-originated Buddhist Temple which is known as Monkey Temple as well. It is located on the top of the hill from where you can see the superb view of the whole Kathmandu Valley. After having visited this holy temple, we will drive you to Boudha Stupa. It is a holy place for Buddhist and pilgrims which was slightly damaged during due the tremor of 2015 but later rebuilt. It is one of the largest spherical stupas in the world. From here, we will take you to Pashupatinath Temple that is pretty close from Boudhanth. Pashupatinath Temple, located at the bank of the Bagmati River is one of the biggest and most popular Shrines where you can behold for Hindus. Pashupatinath Temple which is the biggest Hindu Temple. You can see the ritual and cremation activities according to the Hindus Culture. At the end of the day, we will return back to the hotel. By the evening, we will take you to a Nepali restaurant for welcome dinner with typical Nepali cultural dance. At last, we will drop you to the hotel and spend a night with breakfast.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2,840m) and trek to Tsutanga (3,020m) 4/5 hours

We will come to the hotel to pick you up and drive to the domestic airport early in the morning for Lukla flight which takes around 35 minutes. You can see unbelievable view of White Mountains and green country side. As you get at the Tenjing Hillary airport lukla then we will get off from the plan and go to a lodge and take small break with a cup of tea and introduce with our other crew like porters. Then we move slowly through Pine forest to Tsutanga. Tsutanga is small place located at the bottom of Chhatare La where few small lodges are available for staying. We stay overnight here.

Day 04: Tsutanga to Chhatare (4,610m) 4/5 hours 5/6 hours

From Tsutanga we start our journey after breakfast. The way is steep till the top of Chhatare ridge. From here the trail gently ascends through rhododendron and pine tree and arrives at Kharkityang. We continue our journey to Chhatare with the view of Kongde Himal and Lukla valley. The way from Kharkityang to the top of Chhatre ridge becomes a bit difficult and icy if there is snow. From the top of Chhatra danda, the way slowly descends and gets to Chhatare where we spend a night.

Day 05: Chhatare to Kothe (3,691m) 4/5 hours 4/5 hours

After having spent a night at Chhatare, we continue our trek to Kothe. The trail descends down to Kothe through rhododendron, pine and juniper trees and small himalayan bamboo and finally arrives at Kothe. Kothe is a small place located at the bank of the Inkhu Stream where only few lodges are available for staying. Here we spend a night at Lodge.

Day 06: Kothe to Tangna (4,356m) 4/5 hours

As usual we will start our trip after breakfast. The way goes along the river and passes through beautiful yak pasture. As you get near Tangna, you can visit one small monastery inside the cave. According to the legend, the people brought this statue from Kongma dingma and wanted to bring to Lukla. On the way to Lukla as they arrived at this point and the people could not even move the statue and then they left it at the cave. Later they made wall around it and started to worship it again. Tangna is a small place where few small lodges are available for staying. We spend night there.

Day 07: Rest day at Tangna (4,350m)

You have whole day free and to use the spare time, you can walk up to Tangna Lake and then come back to the camp and have lunch. By the evening the climbing guide will give a small rock climbing training. Then you can wander around it and we stay another night as well at the same place.

Day 08: Tangna to Khare (5,045m) 4/5hours

The trail gently climbs up with the stunning view of Rectangular Mountain, Tangna Lake and Mera Peak. There are no any lodges between Tangna and Khare. Hence, we head directly to Khare for Lunch which takes around 4 hours. Khare is a small and the last village of this route where only few small lodges are built. It is located at the bottom of Mera Base Camp. We stay overnight there.

Day 09: Khare to Mera Base Camp (5,350m) 4/5 hours

On the next day after breakfast, we slowly climb the hill with the view of Khare Village, Mera Peak and Rectangular Himal. The way is rocky and sometimes become icy due to snow. After 4 hours of walking, we will arrive at Mera Base Camp where we spend a night in a tented camp.

Day 10: Mera peak (6461m) climb and back to Base Camp 11/12 hours

Today is the hardest day of our entire trek due to the summit. Hence, we get up early in the morning around 1 am and start our journey to the summit with well preparation. We have to walk very carefully while ascending because we can’t see the ice hole on the snow sometimes. We continue our journey towards the top with new hope. As you get on the top, you will forget all the pain and difficulty that you have faced on the way. The great stunning mountains view from the top is unforgettable. After summit, we slowly descend down to the base camp and stay overnight again at the same place.

Day 11: Base Camp to Kongmadingma (4,850m) 4/5 hours

After the summit of Mera Peak, we will head to Kongmading which is a small beautiful valley located on the lap of Mt. Barunche. The way descends down through small bushes and arrives at Kongmadingma. It was huge village in the olden time according to the legend. The Himalayan Sherpa people used live there with their yak and cattle. Later due to lack of foods they migrated again down to the low land and this place became human less. We stay a night here in the tent.

Day 12: Kongma Dingma to Seti Pokhari (5,035m) 5/6 hours

Kongmadingma is a beautiful place from here we head to Seti Pokhari, Seti Pokhari means white Lake. You can see the magnificient views of Mt. Barunche, the beautiful Kongmadingma dale, Seti Pokhari and other numerous small peaks along with Amphu Lapcha range while ascending. After 5/6 hours of walking, we finally arrives at Amphu Lapch Base Camp and stay overnight at tented camp.

Day 13: Seti Pokhari to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp South) (5,650m) 5/6 hours

From Seti Pokhari, we again climb up to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp South (5650m). You can see the mighty scenery of Barunche Himal, Seti Pokhari and Amphu Lapcha Pass ridge. It takes us 5/6 hours slowly to get to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp South from Seti Pokhari where we will stay overnight at tent.

Day 14: Amphu Lapcha Base Camp 9 (South 5,650m) to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (North 5,300m) 5/6 hours

Amphu Lapcha pass is the most adventurous journey of this trek. So, we start early in the morning to cross the high pass because if we did late, after the sunrise the ice may melt and makes the way difficult. As you get on the top our climbing Sherpa will make the way by fixing the rope. You can see the stunning mountain view of Lhotse range, Island peak and much more. From the top we have to descend down around 100m by means of rope and our climbing Sherpa will help us for that. We need to wear crampon today if there is snow. After that we will constantly descend down to Noth Amphu Lapcha Base Camp and stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 15: Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (North) (5,300m) to Pangboche (3,930) 5/6 hours

Today we descend down again and cross the River of Imza Lake. Imza Lake, located at the bottom of Island peak is pretty close from us. We continue our journey with the superb scenery of Island peak, Lhotse range, Kongma La Pass ridge and Khumbu Valley. The way goes through Chhokung and Dingboche. Chhokung is the first village after Amphu Lapcha Pass. It is a small Sherpa village from here we again descend down to Dingboche where we stop for lunch. After having lunch we descend down to Pangboche and stay overnight there.

Day 16: Pangboche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) 6/7hours

Pangboche is a small beautiful Sherpa village located at the bottom of Mt. Amadablam. From here we descend down with the view of Mt. Amadablam, Lhotse range, and Tengboche monastery and cross the river. The way goes through pine and rhododendrons forest and arrives at Tengboche. Tyangboche is famous due to its old monastery It is the oldest and popular monastery of Khumbu region. From here we descend down to Punki Tanga and cross the river and then ascend to Kyangjuma. Kyanjuma is the main junction of Gokyo and Everest Base Camp Trek. We again walk down to Namche with the picturesque views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Kongde peak, Tabuche peak and the green Khumbu valley and at last we arrive at Namche Bazaar where we spend a night.

Day 17: Namche Bazaar to Phakding (2,610m) 6/7 hours

Namche Bazaar the himalayan trading centre is the most beautiful city of Everest region from where we descend down and cross Dhudhkosi River then continue our trek to Phakding through Jorsale, Monju, Benkar village along bank of Dhudkoshi River and finally arrive at Phakding. We spend a night there.

Day 18: Phakding to Lukla (2,840m) 4/5 hours

This is final day of our trek. We directly head to Lukla and celebrate the final day of our trek with our innocent porters and staffs. By the evening we dinner together and distribute tips for them to thank for their hard works during the trek and say good bye. We spend a night at Lukla

Day 19: Lukla to Kathmandu (1,350m) 35 minutes by flight

We fly back to Kathmandu after our long mountain journey. The early morning flight drops us in Kathmandu. We can rest and relax throughout the day at hotel. If we get interested to take some gifts home from Nepal for friends and relatives, we can visit to some nearby shops or venture out in Thamel for typical Nepalese goods. By the evening we will take you for farewell dinner. We stay Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 20: Final Departure

We will drop you to the airport for your final departure and say good bye to all of you until your next visit.
